If you see any of these error messages:
- Access denied,
- Access violation ntdll.dll,
- List index out of bounds,
- specified file could not be found : histoire.sqlite,
- Abnormal program termination,
- Red cross on a white background
Note: This list is not exhaustive. If correcting the file or resetting the preferences only temporarily removes the error message or allows files to be opened, but the blockage occurs again, this indicates that the issue lies with the environment settings. In all cases, if the blockage or error message eventually reappears, it means that the fault lies with the environment configuration and not the software itself.
These error messages mean that the files required to run the Heredis software are blocked. This is caused by a setting in a product installed on your computer. This may be your antivirus software or automatic cleaning software. To solve this problem, you need to set your antivirus software and any automatic cleaning software to allow the Heredis software to access these files.
First, please make sure that the genealogy files you're working on are stored locally in your computer's memory and not in a cloud.
Some clouds activate automatically, as is the case with OneDrive.
The most commonly used clouds are Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.
If the genealogy files you're working on are stored in a cloud, we invite you to contact the customer service department of that cloud so they can help you transfer them to your computer's memory and set up their product so that these files are no longer automatically sent to the cloud.
If you'd like to find out more about clouds, take a look at our dedicated article : Clouds

Once you've ensured that your files are stored locally, you can move on to setting up antivirus and automatic cleaning software.
Each software publisher is responsible for its own product. Under no circumstances can our company intervene directly in your antivirus or cleaning software. We indicate here the elements that must be authorized in order for the Heredis software to run correctly. However, it is the responsibility of the companies who publish your antivirus and automatic cleaning software to assist you in the exact configuration of their products.
We invite you to download the following file for an exhaustive list of the antivirus software installed on your computer: Check_C_archive.zip
Please note: you really do need to download and run this file to find out which antivirus programs are installed on your computer. Some antivirus programs may be installed on your computer at the time of purchase, without any action on your part. Others may be installed at the same time as other programs, without you even realizing it. Similarly, when you uninstall an antivirus, residues may remain on your computer. Several antivirus programs may be present on your computer without your knowing it!
To unzip the downloaded file, right-click on it and select "Extract all":
Open the folder named "Check_C_directory" and double-click on the file Check_C_Antiv.cmd :
Windows may display this window, click on More info and then on Run anyway:
A black window will appear. Wait until it disappears by itself.
Once the window has disappeared, open the 3-Antivirus_status file. This file lists the antivirus software present on your computer, and indicates the status of each as On ("running") or Off ("deactivated").
Windows Defender will always be present.
If several antivirus programs are present in addition to Windows Defender, you need to select the one you want to keep and then uninstall the others. Indeed, if several antivirus programs are present, you may encounter conflicts between them. Once all that's left is the antivirus you want (and possibly Windows Defender if you don't want it to be your only antivirus), we invite you to download the folder that corresponds to your version of Heredis.
This folder contains :
- a file indicating the prerequisites you need to check before setting up your antivirus and automatic cleaning software (two files are available: one for Windows 10 and one for Windows 11)
- a file indicating the parameters to be sent to your antivirus support service,
- a file with links to the support services of the main antivirus programs,
- a file containing the settings to be sent to the helpdesk of your automatic cleaning software, if you have one.
