There are several ways to collaborate on the same file:
Option 1:
One person enters all the data, while the others conduct research and send the information they find to the person entering the data so that they can compile everything into a single family tree.
The person who enters all the information publishes the family tree regularly to share the progress of the family tree with others. See the procedure below for publishing and sharing a publication.
If you want to change roles, the person in charge of data entry simply compresses their family tree and sends it by email or via a cloud service (Drive, etc.).
Publish a family tree
In Heredis, open your family tree and click on
Publish to publish your file on Heredis Online.
Share a publication
Share your published family tree with family members by sending them the URL.
To do this, select the entire address, right-click and select 'Copy'.
Open your email account. Create a new message, then right-click to paste the URL address.
If you have made your family tree private, remember to provide the password.
Option 2:
Share the information you find with each other via email and enter it into your own family tree.
Option 3:
This is the most complex option to implement: each person works on a separate branch.
For example:
Branch 1: The root character, their parents, siblings, and descendants.
Branch 2: The paternal grandfather
Branch 3: The paternal grandmother
Branch 4: The maternal grandfather
Branch 5: The maternal grandmother
Occasionally, you can group all your branches together by following the procedure below:
- Create a new family tree.
- Import each branch into the new family tree after compressing and sending it by email or via the cloud.
- Link the grandparents to the parents of the central character.
- Check for and merge any duplicates.
Note: This comprehensive genealogy will only be valid for a short period of time, providing you with a snapshot of your entire family tree at a given moment.
You will need to recreate it periodically by following the described procedure when you wish to share your work again.
You will find useful information below on the format of a Heredis family tree and how to name your family tree.

- Important: Never work directly in the cloud. Each user should download the file to work on it from their computer. They can then send it back to the next person via this space.
- Tip: Before sending the file back to the next person, you can rename the file from the software's home page by adding the date of the last modification. This provides additional security to ensure you are working on the latest updated file.
Here is a tutorial explaining how to do so: https://help.heredis.com/en/rename-a-file/
