Sharing on the local network is divided into two modes: initial sharing of the file and, subsequently, sharing of successive updates of the same file.
Sharing glossary :
Sharing in "INITIAL MODE" = the first time the file is sent from the source machine to the target machine.
Sharing in "DATA UPDATE MODE" = sending of updates following the initial sending between the two machines.
The sending machine = the machine from which you are sending the file for the first time.
Generally, the sending machine is the machine containing the most up-to-date genealogy.
The Target machine = this is the machine that will receive the initial file sent by the source machine.
The target machine is, therefore :
- Either the machine that has not yet received the genealogy file
- Or the machine which is due to receive the updated file or data, and therefore contains the oldest genealogy (in terms of data modification dates).
"Sharing on the local network" is used to view your genealogies on remote machines such as mobile devices.
If, however, you wish to work on your genealogy on different machines, you'll need to be extremely cautious. This requires a rigorous approach and a thorough understanding of the various stages of sharing, and that of the life cycle of your family tree file in general.
Sharing in "INITIAL MODE" (click here to show) :
The initial file sharing is the first step in the sharing process, allowing
you to send your entire genealogy from one machine to another, thus linking
two machines together in relation to this genealogy.
It's called initial sharing because it's the first time the genealogy
is sent to the target device.
It is the sending machine that initiates the sending of the file to the target machine. In this mode, every file and folder of the entire genealogy is sent (data file and all media).
This may take some time, depending on the size of your genealogy and the speed of your Internet network.

Note : Please note that "Sharing on local network"only supports two machines at a time. (If you add a 3rd machine, you will be not in supported use anymore. Sharing is file is a process that only involves two identified machines (sending machine and receiving machine).
Subsequently, if all goes well, initial sharing will no longer be necessary.
You will then automatically switch to the "Data update" sharing mode. (more information at the bottom of the page)

From the sending machine, all you have to do is try to share a file :
If you see don't a blue tick or a green dot next to the target machine, and you can also click on "Share "
( As illustrated below in Windows and MacOS)
That's how it looks like in Android or iOS:
Sharing in "DATA UPDATE MODE"(click here to show) :
WARNING:
The system does not take into account the number of individuals and/or media, or even the veracity of the data.
The "Data Update" sharing mode is based on the date and time of modification of one file in relation to the other. The system will compare your two files and determine which is the most recent. You may well have modified the file containing the least data last. Heredis will detect it as the most recent, and this file will overwrite the other.
On the other hand, if you find yourself in a situation where your two genealogy files contain different data, it is impossible to compare the two databases and extract only the different data. The easiest way to do this is to open two Heredis sessions, displaying each genealogy and re-entering the missing data on one of the genealogies.
In Data update mode, you need to identify the target machine (the one whose file contains the "oldest" data).
In this sharing mode, the idea is to send only the data needed to update the information between the two versions of the file. For this reason, it is the target machine that initiates the sharing in data update mode (As opposed to sharing in initial mode, where the source computer sends the entire file the first time.)
